چکیده
[email protected] Abstract Alkaloids are nitrogen-containing compounds found in plants. Most are highly valued for their role in wide array of ailments such as anti-malarial, anti-cancerous, analgesics, and many more. In lights of tremendous interest in recent years on the chemistry and pharmacological properties of alkaloids, comprehensive data have been collected. Forest industries have recently started to develop sustainable ways to increase the value of its residues including the extraction and commercialization of high-valued plant natural compounds such as alkaloids. This review presents the distribution of alkaloids among woody plants (trees and shrubs).

The illuminated plant cell.
The past decade has provided biologists with a palette of genetically encoded, multicolored fluorescent proteins. The living plant cell turned into a 'coloring book' and today, nearly every text-book organelle has been highlighted in scintillating fluorescent colors. This review provides a concise listing of the earliest representative fluorescent-protein probes used to highlight various target...
متن کاملFederico Delpino and the foundation of plant biology.
In 1867, Federico Delpino, with his seminal work "Pensieri sulla biologia vegetale" (Thoughts on plant biology) established plant biology by defining it not in the broad general sense, namely as the science of living beings, but as a branch of natural science dedicated to the study of plant life in relation to the environment. Today, the figure and achievements of this outstanding plant scienti...

متن کاملPlant Pathology Courses for Agricultural Awareness
Plant pathology has had and continues to have direct relevance and impact on everyday life. The science of plant pathology was born of famine in Ireland in the 1840s. Concerns about the effects of plant diseases on our lives are as relevant today. However, most people don’t think about plant diseases, and there is considerable concern among plant pathologists about this lack of awareness and wh...
متن کاملBreeding by design.
Breeding by Design is a concept that aims to control all allelic variation for all genes of agronomic importance. This concept can be achieved through a combination of precise genetic mapping, high-resolution chromosome haplotyping and extensive phenotyping. Thanks to marker technology, software tools and the know-how available today, this goal can now be achieved. Depending on the crop-specifi...
متن کاملHigh plant diversity in Eocene South America: evidence from Patagonia.
Tropical South America has the highest plant diversity of any region today, but this richness is usually characterized as a geologically recent development (Neogene or Pleistocene). From caldera-lake beds exposed at Laguna del Hunco in Patagonia, Argentina, paleolatitude approximately 47 degrees S, we report 102 leaf species. Radioisotopic and paleomagnetic analyses indicate that the flora was ...
